Condolences on the Passing of David Buxbaum - 1933-2023 RIP

‎שלום רב,

We would like to express our deepest condolences on the passing of LehmanBush’s longtime beloved friend, David Buxbaum. We were saddened to learn of this profound loss.

David C. Buxbaum, חיים דוד בן שלמה ע"ה, held a significant place in our hearts and the legal community. His pioneering efforts as the first American lawyer invited to China in 1972, after President Nixon's historic visit, were instrumental in establishing and representing American business interests. His dedication and commitment to bridging legal practices between China, Mongolia, and Asia greatly contributed to the growth and success of the rule of law.

As an esteemed expert in private international Chinese, Mongolian, and Asian law, David's knowledge and experience were widely respected. His extensive publications in the field showcased his expertise and served as a valuable resource for legal professionals. David's involvement in various areas, including M&A, securities, commodities, litigation, intellectual property, and commercial arbitration, demonstrated his versatility and proficiency.

Throughout his career, David handled notable cases, both domestically and internationally. His representation of the successful respondents in the landmark case of Butz v Economou before the United States Supreme Court in 1978 highlighted his legal acumen. In China, he successfully managed significant cases involving renowned companies such as Microsoft, Autodesk, and Wordperfect v. Juren at the Beijing Intermediate Court in 1996. His expertise in IP civil and criminal cases, as well as his involvement in leading commercial arbitration cases in China, Hong Kong, London, and New York, made him a respected figure in the legal community.

As we mourn the loss of David Buxbaum, we extend our sympathies to his family. May Hashem, in His infinite mercy, comfort them in their time of grief. May they find solace and strength among the mourners of Jerusalem, and may their spirits be uplifted within the embrace of their community. We pray for their health and well-being, and may they find joy and happiness in their lives.

During this challenging period, we stand in solidarity with the Shanghai Jewish community as we remember David and honor his legacy. Our thoughts and prayers are with David's family, friends, and all those who were touched by his kindness, wisdom, and generosity. May his memory be a blessing and a source of inspiration for us all.
